Alliteration is when you give an inanimate object life or the ability for inanimate objects to have human traits and qualities. In this song, “It Ends Tonight” by All American Rejects, there is alliteration in this song. It is in these lyrics,”…the walls start breathing.” This is alliteration because walls can’t breathe. The band said that the walls breathe tonight because the walls are about to be falling down. This song could also be about the Berlin Wall. This was when the wall in Germany was knocked down, so that the country was not divided anymore. Hyperbole is a huge exaggeration. In this song, “Candle in the Wind” by Elton John, there is hyperbole. In these lyrics, is hyperbole, “…it seemed to me you lived your life like a candle in the wind.” This is hyperbole because if there was a candle in the wind, the candle would get blown out. Elton John said this because there is this person that has been turned down by many, many people and they were really sad. Onomatopoeia is when you say something that means exactly what it sounds like. An example of that would be “buzz” or “zip.” Another example is in this song, “Boom Boom Pow” by The Black Eyed Peas. It is in these lyrics, “…gotta get boom boom boom…” In this song, there are more examples onomatopoeia, but it is just the same as the one I listed earlier. There is one more, though. Instead of saying, “…gotta get that boom boom boom,” it says, “…gotta get that boom boom pow.” If you would like to listen to this song that has onomatopoeia here is the link to listen to “Boom Boom Pow”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m48GqaOz90

Alliteration is words that have the same consonant sound or sound group. In this song, “Love The Way You Lie” by Eminem, there is alliteration. In these lyrics,”… it’s goin’ good, it’s goin’ great,” Eminem repeats the letter “G.” This then makes the repetitive sound of “G” with goin’, good, goin’, great. He repeats this verse two, three, or maybe even four times! This alliteration creates a sense of rhythm and rhyme. Because of this, it makes the song sound more like a rap. An idiom is an expression that is unpredictable from its usual meanings. In the song, “Say What You Say” by Eminem, there are idioms. Well , I could only find one. It’s, “…I’m hear to play the devil’s advocate.” This is something that was in a television show that i once saw, but it didn’t have Eminem in it. This is like an instrument, only the devil can play it only. Eminem means that he is going to be like say what you say, but I will play the devil’s advocate. A metaphor is when you try to compare things that are not compatible. In this song, Pokerface by Lady Gaga, there is a metaphor in here. In these lyrics, this is the metaphor, “…Can’t read him by his pokerface.” This means that you can’t  read his face to see if he is lying or if he is telling the truth, so that is his pokerface. This is good to have in a real poker game. That is what this song is mostly about, poker and people’s pokerface. Similes are two things that have something in common by combining them with like or as. In the song, “Cold as Ice” by Foreigner, is a simile. You can tell just by looking at the title. In these lyrics you can find a simile, “…You’re as cold as ice.” This means that your mean and you don’t really care what everybody else thinks. So, this means that you are cold. This could even mean that they are doing a good thing because they also say, “…Your willing to sacrifice our love.” If you would like to listen to this song here is the link to do so: http://en.dilandau.eu/download_music/cold-as-ice-foreigner-1.html#0

Personification is when you give an inanimate object human thoughts, traits, and characteristics. In this song, “Barbie Girl by Aqua, this song is all about personification. This is all about personification because it is a barbie coming to life and telling us about her life and how good it is. She also tells how people play with her and she also tells you what you can do when you play with a Barbie doll. In these lyrics, you can tell that it is a Barbie doll singing “… I’m a Barbie girl in a Barie world…” Here is the link to listen to this song: http://en.dilandau.eu/download_music/barbie-girl-aqua-1.html#0

A hyperbole is a huge exaggeration. In the song “Grenade” by Bruno Mars, there is use of a hyperbole. It is in this set of lyrics “…I’ll catch a grenade for ya.” This is a hyperbole because nobody will really ever catch a grenade for somebody. They might in COD though. There is more examples in this song. In these lyrics as well “…I’ll jump in front of a train for ya.” In this song, he also said these lyrics, “…I’ll take a bullet straight through my brain for ya.” If you would like to listen to this song here is the link for it: http://en.dilandau.eu/download_music/grenade-bruno-mars-1.html#0

Onomatopoeia is  when a writer means exactly what the lyrics say. In the song, “Old McDonald Had A Farm”, there is onomatopoeia in this song. The onomatopoeia in this song is “…moo-moo here moo-moo there, here a moo, there a moo, everywhere a moo-moo.” This is an onomatopoeia because the writer means exactly what he or she meant to say. I like onomatopoeia because it easy to write and understand what the person means and you do not have to go into large detail about it.
